Fishing Report

Rainy Lake slabs are darn near jumping out of the holes these
days. I've actually had to request clients wear helmets while
fishing. Over the weekend we put the UP NORTH wood to over 250
crappies! Biggest fish topping out at 2LBS! I don't mean around
2 pounds either, these are true Gi-Normous fish. Electronics,
mobility, and light tackle will play big roles in your success. Plan
on drilling holes as if you are in training for an Olympic event!

Pike are beginning to show up in deeper waters adjacent to their
spawning grounds. These fish will soon be taking over the shallows
and devouring big baits as they gain energy for the upcoming spawn.
Fish upwards of 25lbs will be caught. FYI when tip up fishing DO NOT
wrap tip up line around fingers before setting the hook! These fish
are BIG!

Walleyes have been a bit slow as of late, but as most anglers
know you can't be on a hot bite until you've been on a slow down. Fish
are to be caught still on the edges of reefs, and in the Sand Bay
area. Work your electronics. Fish a dead stick with a shiner around 5
feet off bottom. Pound the bottom with your jig stick fishing a
jigging spoon with a minnow head. You'll catch fish.

This late ice period is arguably some of the most productive
fishing you'll come across statewide. Searching holes in sweatshirts,
and having your buddy turn the brats on the weber grill is a good
time. Hopefully you'll be posing with the fish of a lifetime too!
